The Diamond Bracelet
The Diamond Bracelet
Once, Valliammai Achi from Chennai, (Sri Lakshmana Chettiyar’s elder sister), brought her jewels and placed them before Yogi Ramsuratkumar. Devotees had the practice of getting their precious jewels blessed by Bhagavan. This elderly lady, Valliammai Achi might have brought her jewels and her husband’s ornaments, either to get it blessed by Bhagavan or she might have brought it as an offering. She did not mention the purpose when she placed it before Bhagavan. Swami wore the ornaments and enquired Achi if those were for Him only. Achi was perplexed and for a moment, she didn’t know what to say. Swami placed her in a situation where she was not left with multiple choices. Quickly , she gathered herself and said that they were for Him only. That was the period when the construction was going on and devotees were giving their contributions for the work.
Yogiji wore all the ornaments. He asked Ma Devaki if she wanted any of those. Ma Devaki promptly responded that she did not want any of those and she wanted only Bhagavan’s blessings. Then he enquired the other Sudhama sisters, Rajalakshmi and Vijayakka. They also responded in the same manner. Smt. Rajlakshmi who was seated next to the Sudhama sisters expected that her turn would come next and she started memorizing the reply that she should give, in line with what the Sudhama sisters told. She intended to say “Swami, Your love is enough for me. I do not need any of these jewels”.
Smt. Rajlakshmi’s turn came. Yogiji called her to come near Him. She went to Yogiji, mentally rehearsing the reply, as she always had some hesitation in speaking boldly to Yogiji. To her surprise, instead of asking her whether she wanted any of those jewels, Yogiji directly handed over the diamond bracelet to her and asked her to take it. He said that she would obey Him when he asks her to accept it. He mentioned that she should always wear it and never remove it. He even added that she should not remove it even if Sri Mani asked her to take it out.
After many days, on a particular day, for some reason, Sri Mani asked Smt. Rajlakshmi to return the bracelet to Swami. Smt. Rajlakshmi also took it and handed it over to Bhagavan. At that time, Sri Lee Lozowick was there. Bhagavan thought that she had given something to be given to Mr. Lee and was about to give it to him. At that time, Ma Devaki recognized it and immediately alerted Bhagavan that it was Rajlakshmi’s bracelet. Yogi became angry and asked Smt. Rajlakshmi to wear it immediately. Yogiji told Smt. Rajlakshmi that if she wanted to do something for him, then she should always wear it in her hand so that he could see it every day.
There are many things that we need to learn from these incidents.
(i) When we go to Yogiji, we should be ever ready to offer all our possessions to Him. Achi demonstrated ultimate surrender when she readily agreed to give her jewels to Bhagavan.
(ii) Once we make an offering to Him, He decides what to do with it. It is no longer our belonging and hence we lose the right to give directions on how it should be used.
(iii) Yogi Ramsuratkumar would easily out-smart us. Anticipating Smt. Rajlakshmi’s response, if he asks her for her wish, Yogiji directly gave the jewel to her.
(iv) It is a blessing to be instructed by Bhagawan to do something. It is for our own good that we religiously follow the instruction.
